I studied medicine for 6 years at “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bucharest, Romania. During the first year of study, I was given the opportunity to enrol as a volunteer researcher at “Victor Babes” National Institute of Pathology; so, whenever I had some spare time, I went to the Cell Biology lab of the institute, in order to learn different cell culture techniques.
During the summer break of 2014, I applied for an internship within the Heart Attack Research Team (HeART) of the Institute for Molecular Cardiovascular and Atherosclerotic disease Research (IMCAR), Uniklinik RWTH Aachen. In the following summers (2015 and 2016), I continued to go to IMCAR, in order to further expand my skills in cellular and molecular biology. In the summer of 2017, I concentrated on finishing my Master’s, which focused on myocardial infarction regeneration, a field of interest of both “Victor Babes” Institute and HeART.
Since 2016, I am a member of the Romanian Society of Cell Biology. In 2016 and 2017, I presented my results at the national congresses of the society and, both times, I was awarded a prize (Honourable mention in 2016 and First prize in 2017).
At the very beginning of 2018, I applied for the Early Stage Researcher position for Project 11 at the INTRICARE programme. Here, I am currently working on my PhD at the Department of Nuclear Medicine, Uniklinik RWTH Aachen, where I am conducting a dual-phase project (preclinical and clinical), in order to correctly identify intimal micro-calcification and plaque vulnerability via PET/MRI. Thus, I am jointly applying my medical and my research knowledge that I gained throughout the years.
I am in close relations with the research teams from both “Victor Babes” Institute and HeART from IMCAR.
