Maurice Halder

I am a 23 years old biomedical scientist from The Netherlands. I completed my Biomedical Sciences degrees at Maastricht University. During my internships there my interest in cardiovascular research was sparked. I completed my thesis, which focused on arterial remodeling and the effects on cardiovascular diseases, at the department of Biochemistry supervised by Dr. Leon Schurgers. In that project I focused on several effects of arterial remodeling such as, vascular calcification and the key role of vascular smooth muscle cells on the development of atherosclerosis. Now, I have the unique opportunity to start my PhD project under supervision of Professor Floege at the RWTH in Aachen, Germany. My research focuses on the vitamin K-dependent mechanisms of cardiovascular calcification in chronic kidney disease patients.
