I was born in Greece and completed my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a specialization field on Molecular Biology, Genetics and Biotechnology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. Following my studies, I received my Master degree on “Molecular Basis of Human Disease” at the University of Crete, School of Health Science and during this period I found out my passion for Cardiovascular and Metabolic research. In my master thesis at the Department of Medicine, UoC and Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB –FORTH), I focused on Metabolic Syndrome Disease and explore how differential gene expression is involved in the hepatic lipid metabolism in an experimental mouse model.
Further, I moved in Nancy, France and I jointed Professor Patrick Lacolley’s group at INSERM UMR_S 1116 and the University of Lorraine, with my project focusing on arterial stiffness and the effect of the pro-resolving lipid mediator and Omega3 PUFAs on thrombin generation.
After gaining first insight into this research field, I was immediately fascinated by the idea to pursue my doctoral studies on Translational Cardiology group under the supervision of Professor Magnus Bäck at Karolinska Institutet, in which currently and for the next years I will explore the interplay mechanisms between structural cells and macrophages in atherosclerosis and cardiovascular calcification disease and how pro-resolving lipid mediator can resolve the inflammation in those diseases.
