Olivia Waring

I am 23 years old and come from Stoke on Trent, in the UK.  I completed my Master’s degree in Biomedical Science, specialising in immunology, with First Class Honours in 2017, and decided to pursue further study. During my degree I spent a wonderful year completing an industrial placement with GlaxoSmithKline, and looked into clinical inflammation across several pathologies. Thanks to this experience I found a major interest in macrophage biology, and completed my Master’s thesis in creating proteomic profiles of macrophage polarisation subsets. I am now beginning my PhD studies at Maastricht University, in the Cardiovascular Research Institute under the supervision of Professor Erik Biessen. My major research focus will be looking into the link between inflammation and calcification in the atherosclerotic plaque; I am very happy and grateful to be a part of the project, working with such a lovely group of people!
